Sister Francis Vinson Frances S. Vinson, 76, of Whitesburg, Georgia, passed away July 25, 2009. She was born on April 23, 1933 in Roanoke, Alabama the daughter of the late Corbin and Lillie Mae Benefield. She worked for Wellington Mills until her retirement. She was a member of the Carrollton Congregational Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Aaron Vinson and daughter, Sara Vinson. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Patricia Ann & Red Ward of Mt. Zion, Mary & Rayford Vinson of Whitesburg, Donna & Tadd Thorne of Ranburne, AL, Johnny & Karry Benefield of Temple, James & Tamara Benefield of Carrollton and Matthew & Dee Dee Benefield of Villa Rica; 11 sisters, 1 brother, 20 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 4:00 pm from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Reverend Ronald Cook officiating. Interment followed the service in Whitesburg City Cemetery with Reverend “Curtis” Paul Holloway officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 10:00 am until the service hour at 4:00 pm. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton, Georgia had charge of arrangements. ___________________________________________________
Sister Irene R. Wilder Mrs. Irene R. Wilder, age 91, of Northside Dr., Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008. She was born May 22, 1917, in Carroll County, Georgia the daughter of the late Permilly Elizabeth Driver Reese and Frank Lewis Reese. Mrs. Wilder was a retired textile worker having worked for American Thread Company. She was also the last surviving original member of the Congregational Holiness Church of Carrollton where she was the song leader, Sunday school teacher and choir director for over 60 years and a faithful worker in the church as long as her health permitted. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Bernard Wilder; sisters and brothers, Ruth Ray, John Reese, Bill Reese, Pearl Phillips, Jim Reese, Carl Reese, Wesley Reese and Willie Reese. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Shirley & Roy Emanuel, Barbara Gilstrap, Amos & Teressa Wilder, Charles & Kathy Wilder all of Carrollton and Diane & Ken Baldwin of Woodland; sister, Edna Arnold of Whitesburg; brothers, Rayford Reese of CA., Henry Reese of AZ., Frank Reese of Sergent and Bob Reese of Whitesburg; 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2 PM from the Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Tommy Taylor, Rev. Ronnie Cook and Rev. Mark Willingham officiating. Pallbearers will be Joey Meeks, Frank Meeks, Casey Wilder, Randy Haehnlein, Tracy Allen and Tim Smith. Interment followed in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. _________________________________________________________________________
Sister Blanche McIntyre Funeral services were held at the Gainesville CH Church Thursday July 17th, 2008 @ 2pm for Sister Blanche McIntyre, age 96, who is the grandmother of Rev Vance Hardegree the North Alabama District Secretary for the Congregational Holiness Church Inc. Sister McIntyre is the oldest living member of the Gainesville CH Church. She has been a member there for over seventy years. She was the prayer leader for a Tuesday morning (ladies only) prayer service that had meet at the church for over seventy years. She passed away after a brief illness which she contracted from the nursing home of which she was a resident. Rev. Vance Hardegree and Rev. Jeff Burrell officiated. Vance sung his "Granny Mac's" favorite song "Visions of Heaven". _______________________________________________________________
Mrs. Mable Weldon Mrs. Mabel Thelma Weldon, age 86, of Sims St., Carrollton, Ga., passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007. She was born March 3, 1921 in Worth County, Georgia to the late Lithonia Cates Perkins and George Washington Perkins. Mrs. Weldon worked in the lunchroom for Carrollton City Schools for 18 years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Albert Weldon; two sons, Bobby & Davy Weldon; three sisters, Annie Mae Slocumb, Corrine Cato and Bessie Cox; and three brothers, Frank Perkins, George Henry Perkins and Carl Perkins. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Howard & Jean Weldon of Bremen, Ray Weldon, Betty Sue & Ronald Jackson and Larry & Susan Weldon all of Carrollton; grand children, Ricky & Kay Weldon, Darlene & Michael Thompson, Henry & Ana Jackson, Christy & Chris Gunnels, Jason & Christina Weldon, Wendy Weldon & Matt Simmins, Courtney Weldon and Caleb Wood; also five great grand children and eight great, great grand children. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 11 AM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Ronald Cook officiating. Pall bearers were Matt Simmins, Jason Weldon, Henry Jackson, Michael Thompson, Sam King, Sherman Hendrix, Mike Blandenburg and Ronnie Riddle. Interment followed in Striplin Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 until 9 PM. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton had charge of the arrangements. ________________________________________________
Mr. Greg Buchanan Mr. Gregory Lyndal "Greg" Buchanan, age 43, of Stewart St., Carrollton, Ga., passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007. He was born May 14, 1963 in Carroll County, Ga., to the Mackie Herrin Buchanan and Horace E. Buchanan. Greg worked for Printed Fabrics for 18 years and later worked as a stocker, for Dollar General for 4 years. He was preceded in death by his grand parents, Harvey and Bertha Herrin. Besides his parents, survivors include two brothers, Mark Buchanan and Dennis Buchanan both of Carrollton; two nieces and a nephew, Mark , Jessica & Elaine Buchanan; two great nieces and great nephew, Jaiden & Lyrica Buchanan and Triston Todd; also a number of aunts and uncles. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 2 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Cook officiating. Music was provided by Tonya Cook and Chastity Truitt. Pall bearers were Mark Lee, Joe Williamson, Mickey Sikes, Travis Harris, Randy Herrin, Stanley Buchanan, and Greg Adams. Interment followed in Banning Church of God. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton had charge of the arrangements. ____________________________________________
Sister Magdalene Kilgore Mrs. Magdalene T. Shelton Kilgore, age 73, of Lovvorn Rd., Carrollton, Ga., passed away Monday May 14, 2007. She was born July 14, 1933 in Carroll County, Georgia to the late Ruby Irene Gaulding Turner and Sumerly Huntly "S.H." Turner. Mrs. Kilgore was a retired seamstress having worked for Sewell's MfG. Company and was a member of Lowell Congregational Holiness Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rayburn Billy Shelton. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Kilgore; her children and their spouses, Jimmy & Karen Shelton of Edwardsville, AL., Brenda Ivey & Rev. Charles Smith, and Jackie & Ivey Nell Shelton all of Carrollton ; a sister, Tommy Nell Cammons ; a brother Glen Turner both of Carrollton, Ga.; also seven grand children, six great grand children, five step grand children and ten step great grand children. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 2PM from Camp Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Bailey and Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Pall bearers were Raymond Ivey, J.J. Ivey, Bobby S. Shelton, Bobby B. Bollen, Thomas Walker and Jeff Shelton. Music was provided by J.W. Daniel and Steve Jones. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton had charge of the arrangements. ____________________________________________
Captain Steve Robinson "A friend to all who met him." Captain Steve Robinson, 34, of Fawn Circle, Carrollton died January 18, 1996. He was born in Carroll County on December 23, 1961, son of Thomas and Rachel Hester Robinson. He was a graduate of Carrollton High School and was a captain with the City of Carrollton Fire Department. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Anthony Robinson. Survivors included his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Robinson; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.D. (Doc) Hester, all of Carrollton; sister, Mrs. Richard (Deborah) Ashworth of Temple; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services were conducted January 20, 1996 at the Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Reverends Jerry Denny, Daniel Rayburn and Vance Hardegree officiating. Pallbearers were members of Engine and Ladder #21 (B) Shift. Honorary pallbearers were members of the City of Carrollton Fire Department, other fire departments, and the local law-enforcement. Interment followed in the Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Tony Collins officiating at graveside. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton had charge of the arrangements.
